Fourteen student ambassadors from Riverbend Middle School attended the Teen CRUSH Drug Summit in Washington. At the Summit, students learned about the dangers of substance abuse from various community resources. Summit guest speakers included the DEA, local law enforcement, paramedics, recovering addicts, and families who have lost loved ones to drug addiction.
Riverbend School Counselor, Mackenzie Ellis said, “The event was impactful for our students to hear from folks who have been personally affected by drug use. The Summit helped our students see that addiction isn’t just a problem that we hear about on the news, but something that members of our community grapple with daily. With the knowledge gained at the event, students have the tools to encourage their peers to make good choices.”
