Honk! is the musical tale of the classic Ugly Duckling story based on Hans Christian Andersen's The Ugly Duckling. Ugly looks quite a bit different from his darling duckling brothers and sisters. The other animals on the farm are quick to notice and point this out, despite his mother's protective flapping. Feeling rather foul about himself, the little fowl finds himself on an adventure of self-discovery, all the while unknowingly outwitting a very hungry Cat. On his search for home, he encounters some larger-than-life characters who all teach him different lessons which begin to help Ugly realize it’s what’s on the inside that matters and that being different is not a bad thing.
Although based on a children’s story, and perfectly suitable for audiences of all ages, the clever script and rich score are filled with nuances that will also keep adult audiences grinning and tapping their toes.
