MVR-III is proud to announce that both Nike Elementary and Zitzman Elementary are two of the four recipients of this year's Cardinals Care Champions for Character award. CharacterPlus®, the longest-running character education initiative in the country, has partnered with the St. Louis Cardinals since 2004 to recognize local schools for excellence in service learning.
The program goal is to increase awareness of the benefits of service learning and encourage schools to move from one-time community service to more long-term, schoolwide service learning projects. For projects to be considered service learning, they must demonstrate how the service is connected to curricular standards, that there was student voice in the decision-making process, student leadership in the project, and reflection on both how it felt to serve and how the project went.
The schools will be honored at the May 5, 2025, Cardinals game. Each school receives tickets to the game, representation on the field before the game, and a banner. For more information about CharacterPlus and Cardinals Care Champions for Character, visit characterplus.org.
