2025 MVR-III Teacher of the Year - Kathy Vogt

Meramec Valley R-III School District is proud to announce that Kathy Vogt, seventh grade English teacher at Riverbend Middle School, is the 2025 District Teacher of the Year.  Mrs. Vogt was informed of this distinction today by MVR-III central office administrators and her building principal.

MVR-III Assistant Superintendent Dr. Ketina Armstrong said, "Mrs. Vogt's selection as the 2025 MVR-III District Teacher of the Year is a well-deserved recognition of her exceptional dedication and profound impact on our students and staff. As the English Department Chair at Riverbend Middle School, she not only cultivates a collaborative professional learning cadre for our seventh and eighth-grade teachers, fostering growth and shared expertise, but also creates an engaging classroom where every student thrives. Her consistent creativity in her English and World English courses ignites a true passion for language and literature within her students. Beyond her instructional excellence and leadership, Mrs. Vogt's unwavering support extends far beyond the classroom, as evidenced by her consistent presence at extracurricular activities. These connections leave a lasting positive impression on our students and alumni, demonstrating her deep commitment to their overall well-being. She truly embodies the qualities of an outstanding educator, and we are incredibly proud to have her represent the MVR-III School District."

Mrs. Vogt holds a Bachelors in Education and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with teaching certifications in Elementary Education (Grades 1-4), ELA (5-9), and History (5-9). She has taught seventh grade English in Meramec Valley for the past 26 years, and she had previously taught middle school students for three years in Ohio.

Beyond her impactful work within her English Language Arts classroom, Mrs. Vogt dedicates her time and energy to an array of extracurricular organizations. She currently sponsors the Responsible Student Athlete club for grades 7 and 8, fostering leadership and character development through sportsmanship. Her past involvement includes sponsoring the middle school Book Tasting Club, empowering student voices through Student Council, and cultivating a positive school climate with the Sunshine Club. Mrs. Vogt's commitment to our district extends further through her active participation on the District Leadership Team, District Safety Committee, and Building Leadership Team, demonstrating her dedication to continuous improvement in our schools. Furthermore, her membership in professional organizations such as the National Council of English Teachers and the National Education Association underscores her commitment to her own professional growth and the advancement of the field of education.

Riverbend Middle School principal Mr. Todd Dempsey said, “The Riverbend community is extremely proud that Mrs. Vogt has been selected for this honor. She is a passionate educator who gives every bit of herself to her students inside, and outside of the classroom. As a veteran teacher, she has never shied away from branching out in new and innovative ways to engage her students. Mrs. Vogt is highly respected by her peers as well. Her leadership presence and experience has helped take Riverbend to new heights. She truly exemplifies the characteristics of an outstanding educator, and we are excited to help her celebrate this well deserved achievement.”

As District Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Vogt will now be advanced as a candidate for Missouri’s regional and statewide Teacher of the Year awards. MVR-III congratulates Kelly Taylor, Zitzman Elementary Special Education Teacher as a 2025 finalist.
