KSDK News visited Zitzman Elementary to interview our Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Schwierjohn, regarding the effectiveness of our storm shelter. This facility provided protection to 77 individuals during the recent severe weather, highlighting our commitment to student and community safety. To watch the KSDK news video, please click HERE.
This essential addition was made possible by the passage of Proposition 1 (a no-tax-increase measure) in 2021, which facilitated the construction of the Zitzman addition, including the storm shelter gymnasium. Constructed with reinforced concrete and impact-resistant materials, the shelter is designed to withstand tornadoes and winds up to 250 mph, offering a secure refuge for both our students and the surrounding community.
Looking ahead, on April 8th, families and citizens within the MVR-III School District will have the opportunity to vote on a proposal to construct a new middle school on the Pacific High School campus, which will include another storm shelter gymnasium. Your participation in this vote is crucial, as it represents a continued investment in the safety and well-being of our students and community members.
We encourage all eligible voters to cast their ballots on April 8th. Thank you for your continued support as we seek to further enhance the safety infrastructure of our schools!
