No, any additional budget cuts would threaten programs and services to students. MVR-III budgets with efficiency in mind and strives to be a good steward of taxpayer dollars. The district has worked cooperatively with staff over the past two years to identify over $1.5 million dollars in reductions and efficiencies. We have demonstrated a high level of fiscal responsibility despite our consistently lean budget.

Increased operating funds are needed in order to continue to provide engaging educational programs and activities for our students. The Meramec Valley R-III School District currently has less funds to spend per student than the state average as illustrated at left.

Meramec Valley School District has typically maintained adequate reserves over the last decade. Our reserves help us safely weather unforeseen economic downturns and avoid sudden budget cutting measures. However, these reserves are now at risk after three years of inflation-induced deficit spending. The Prop E 56 cent operating levy increase is the amount needed in order to maintain a balanced budget and the district policy (DIAA) of 25% reserves. By maintaining at least a 25% reserve (3-months operating expenditures), the district is able to avoid increased interest on its existing and future bonds.
