Pacific, MO- The Meramec Valley R-III School District is happy to announce the selection of three new Pacific High School (PHS) varsity coaches for the 2021-2022 school year. Joe Brammeier has been named head volleyball coach, Melanie Missey will take the lead for the girls’ basketball program, and Steve Smith will serve as the head boys’ soccer coach.
Joe Brammeier is a Southern Illinois native who is making his way to Pacific High to serve as the varsity girls’ volleyball coach. Brammeier began coaching boys’ and girls’ volleyball with High Performance St. Louis in 2015, coached for Team Elite St. Louis for two years, and served as the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s (SIUE) head coach for the men’s club volleyball team since 2018. When asked about taking over the leadership of the PHS volleyball program, Brammeier quoted Dwayne Johnson, “Success isn’t always greatness. It is consistency. Consistent hard work leads to success.” Braummeier shared his excitement about joining the PHS community.
Melanie Missey’s most recent coaching responsibilities have been as the PHS junior varsity girls’ basketball coach. Pacific brought Missey on as the junior varsity basketball coach in 2017 after leaving St. Clair as the junior varsity girls’ basketball coach. Missey has an in-depth knowledge of the program and is known for being an All-American Basketball player in Iowa. During her years at Iowa, Missey’s team made it to the Elite 8 and sweet 16 in back to back years at the National level. “It is an honor for me to be the girls’ head varsity basketball coach at PHS. It has always been a dream of mine to coach basketball and give female athletes the same opportunities my coaches gave me throughout high school and at the collegiate level. I plan to support individual growth in both players' academic and personal lives through the values taught in basketball. The goal is to develop quality athletes and quality women”, stated Missey.
Steve Smith is coming to PHS from St. Pius High School where he currently teaches history and served as the head varsity boys’ soccer coach and assistant varsity girls’ soccer coach. Smith will begin his new role as the new head varsity boys’ soccer coach this summer. Smith has experience coaching boys’ and girls’ soccer and has multiple years of coaching select soccer in the St. Louis region. He has developed training and exercise programs to meet individual needs, organized player nights to cultivate positive relationships and promote the sport.
Student athletes have the opportunity to get to know the new coaches during the PHS Summer Sports Camps.
