PHS students Thomas Stemler and Bain Saulmon are taking part in a new partnership through PHS and Lightwave Technology Lab at Missouri S&T in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department under the guidance of PHS Science Teacher Ms. Kelsey Vancil. Through this internship, they have finished their first research project on sensory perception. The two set up microcontrollers and wrote code to test the accuracy of human perception using visual and auditory stimulation. They tested how many flashes of light students could identify in a second, how many beeps they could identify in a second, and how many flashes with beeps they could identify in a second. They had one hundred student volunteers contribute by participating in this study and summarized their work with a scientific poster that is now on display at Pacific High School and will be on display soon at Missouri S&T.
